Passion for art started early in Gail Pope’s life and she was rarely without a pencil, crayon or paintbrush in her hand throughout her childhood and adolescent years when she was growing up in Dundee.
Although her talent was recognised by her teachers and she won various art competitions, going to art school was not an option for her at that time and she embarked on a career in banking and later ran her own skincare business for 25 years.
Her love of art stayed with her, however, and now, largely self-taught, she paints full-time and has been exhibiting at galleries throughout the UK for the last 15 years.
Working mostly in acrylic, Gail shows the full breadth of her talent, painting vivid landscapes and seascapes, still life works and dynamic figurative paintings. In recent times she has found herself drawn to semi abstract painting and loves working with her brush loaded with multiple colours to create fascinating, vibrant works. She also explores beyond the use of the paintbrush, using sponges, palette knives, tissues, gold leaf, pen and ink and even her fingers to achieve her wonderful results.
