Christine McArthur

Having trained at Glasgow School of Art (1971-1976) followed by a career in teaching, it was in 1980 when Christine started painting full-time and for almost 40 years hasn't looked back.  Her early work was mainly in oil and she became very well known for her large still life paintings on canvas.  In the late 1980's, Christine began to work in oil pastel and watercolour, but more recently she has reverted to oil, as well as collage and acrylic.  Widely recognised as one of the best artists in the UK, Christine has exhibited regularly in Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, Cornwall and as far afield as South Africa, Hong Kong, Moscow and the USA.  She was commissioned by John Lewis Plc to provide beautiful murals for their Glasgow store, and Peter Jones in Chelsea.  Christine is the winner of numerous prizes from the Scottish Arts Council and the RSW.  Worldwide, she is represented in major corporate and private collections including United Distillers, Aberdeen Standard, RBS and Clydesdale Bank.  Christine McArthur's sophisticated paintings show amazing colour combinations and evoke peace, understatement and incredible style.

Gallerist comment - 'I'm very lucky to have known Christine well for almost 20 years and have been an avid collector of her work.  Christine understands people and has a huge love and knowledge of flowers, which is so evident in her work.  I remember at a charity event, a well-known artist admiring Christine's work and saying, "I dream of painting like Christine, she's a real artists' artist".'
