Archie Mccall

Born in Dumfries in 1951 , Archie’s career began in 1970 as apprentice to highly regarded John Davey. In 1974 Archie travelled  to Japan and Korea where his learning continued before establishing his first pottery at Garlieston in Wigtownshire. In 1986 Archie’s success continued when he was rewarded by being offered a position at Glasgow School of Art as a Full Time lecturer and in 1992 became Head of Department .

He studied at Edinburgh College of Art and his successful academic career took him to Singapore pre retiring in 2013 .

Thankfully Archie continues  to work from his pottery where his richly and expertly decorated stoneware and porcelain is in demand worldwide . The surfaces are developed using layers and layers of glazes, oxides and lustres - obviously each piece being totally unique & can differ from examples in our photography .

Gallerist Comment ‘ It wasn’t until December 2020 when I managed to persuade Archie McCall to show with us in Ballater . His tremendous skill & style creates some of the most beautiful pottery / ceramics available in the country today .  ‘
